There’s nothing like a good old fashioned celebrity cook-off!
Even better, an absolutely gorgeous Louisiana native like actress, model and down home Cajun cook Devin DeVasquez! She and boyfriend Ronn Moss from The Bold and the Beautiful got in business and created Devin’s Kick Ass Seasoning - I got a chance to speak with the Kickin’ lady herself. What got you in the food biz? I'm from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and grew up cooking Cajun dishes. In fact a lot of my celebrity friends would bug me to make my Gumbo so much that I thought doing a cookbook was a must. It took me two years to come up with the spice and I'm so proud that everyone seems to love it. It's great on everything! How is it running a company with your honey? I run the business and marketing part and he does the graphics, photography and will help of course with promoting it. We wanted to start small like "mom and pop" and build it from there. So we are a great team. Ronn is very creative and loves coming up with new ideas. I'm the one who implements them. Why spice? What inspired the idea of creating your Kick Ass product? I wanted to create a great Cajun spice that was not too salty and had a good and tasty kick to it. I saw that the market did not have this and so I created my own recipe which is no MSG, low in sodium with garlic, paprika, chili powder, red pepper, white pepper and black pepper. It goes with my "Cookin’ Cajun" cookbook that includes my famous gumbo, soups, stews, salads and pastas, so together it's all you need to cook healthy Cajun meals. I'm terrible in the kitchen! How can a dumb-dumb like me use the seasoning? A great simple one is "Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus." Simply wrap prosciutto around cooked or uncooked asparagus, sprinkle olive oil and add "Devin's Kickass Cajun Seasoning" and you have a wonderful and colorful appetizer! Delish! I know what I’m serving friends at our next game night! Where can we get it? You can only get it online at our website www.devronn.com, I'm working on getting them in the supermarkets soon. Remember to tell a friend because when you buy a spice part of the proceeds go directly to helping rebuild New Orleans. The spice is also manufactured in Louisiana by a native like me so you are getting an authentic Cajun spice that I'm sure you will love! Thanks Devin! You’re awesome - good food with a good cause! Devin DeVasquez has been cooking since she was nine years old. The ultra beautiful entertainment maven has found a niche in Hollywood. DeVasquez is one of the most beautiful ladies in Tinseltown, so it is no surprise she is a former Playboy Centerfold and perhaps the most unforgettable. Devin left New Orleans to make her dreams come true and they have. Finding the perfect mate, talented and handsome Ronn Moss, is simply icing on the cake she calls life. The two have a wonderful collaboration called DevRonn. This new budding business has been touted in publications and in homes across America. It’s destined for big things and big places, as the couple is working on getting it sold in markets and stores worldwide. Spicy Cajun “kick ass” food is right at the tip of your fingers. Both Moss and DeVasquez have spent much of their adult life caring for people and also wanting people to eat and live healthy. Devin has authored a wonderful book called “Cookin’ Cajun” and it’s available at: On her wonderful book, Devin says, “I cook all the time for friends, parties and I'm always making up dishes. I created everything about "Cookin Cajun" myself and did it in just two weeks. Ronn shot all the photos of the dishes as I prepared them. I was making three to four dishes a day. I have been known to cook for 100 people at a time for parties we've thrown, it’s not something I choose to do by myself anymore, too much work. But, I do love to cook.” The two are busy working on many projects, but whatever DeVasquez puts her mind to, those who know her say she’s sure to accomplish and please. After hearing about Devin’s kick ass spice, I had to try it. What a surprise it was. It tastes like nothing else I’ve ever used before. But Devin made sure that not only would she work hard to create this spice, she wanted it to help her family, friends and neighbors in New Orleans where her heart and soul still remain a major part of. "The spice was created after two years of research because I knew nothing about the food industry. I wanted to start small and build slowly to help New Orleans, so the spice was created by me and packaged in Louisiana for the purpose of helping New Orleans rebuild authentically after Hurricane Katrina.” Authentic and delicious is how her spice is described. Authentic is also how the dark haired beauty lives her life. Making sure to take good care of herself, she is fit and eats very healthy. When asked what her fiance’s favorite dish, DeVasquez smiles and then responds, “Ronn loves everything I make, truly. He's loves all the soups and pasta dishes I make especially. So many friends request my Gumbo, which is what inspired me to create DevRonn and 'Devin's Kickass Cajun Seasoning' as well as my 'Cookin Cajun' cookbook.” For those who would like to taste her famous Gumbo, well known west of the Mississippi, it’s in the cookbook. Devin adds, she did you grow up with a background in cooking. "Yes I've been cooking since age 9, when I used to watch my step father cook dishes such as Gumbo, Crawfish bisque and Shrimp Etouffee'. Cajun cooking is my specialty, of course, since I grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It's what I do best.” Though many Hollywood and food industry insiders say, there is not one thing Devin DeVasquez does best. She does everything better than most and the reason is, she takes pride in being authentic and real. Not just in her cooking but in her personal life. Moss and DeVasquez are working on many other projects. Moss will be creating his own wine label and Devin is busy creating a beauty/makeup line that insiders have said is to die for. Not needing any beauty enhancements or make-up herself, you wonder what motivated her to get involved in such a venture. Their greatest collaboration to come is culminating in one year. The couple plans to marry on September 25, 2009. |
